Being a mom

Scroll down for pictures and videos! (Click on "Older Posts" for even more)

I must start by saying that I'm the happiest I've ever been in my whole life. Ayla has brought me such joy and I cannot even put into words how much I love her... but this blog posting is about my stress in being a new mom. It really is the hardest job in the world! I understand so much now of what one of my best friends went through when she had her little boy and what every mom goes through in having their first child. I have a husband who helps me so much with housework and running around, he is also an amazing dad but also has so much on his plate already with helping me outside of Ayla... not to mention bringing home the paycheck.
I have decided that I don't think I'm cut out to be a stay-at-home mom. As much as I love to spend time with Ayla, I have learned how much I need my time away to stay happy for her. I'm looking forward to going back to work in April. Since Ayla was a preemie, her pediatrician does not want her going to daycare before she is 3 months because of the RSV virus going around- and one baby in her classroom just had it.
I seriously look at my own mother in a whole new light now. I have came to realize that the stress and anxiety I am having with my daughter will never go away. Now I know how my mom must have felt raising me. I told my mom that I don't care how old I get, I always need her. She has been there to help me through a lot of this. Right now we are battling with Ayla's reflux and colic and once those are better there will be new issues that we will have to get ourselves through.
I look forward to the day that I am a little less paranoid (which I think I'm getting better.) So many doctors have asked me, "Do you have post-pardum?" and I would say no no no over and over. Finally Ayla's pediatrician sat me down and not only lectured me about not trusting anyone with her, but told me I have the classic post-pardum symptoms. It has since clicked- and yes... I do. I didn't even know, I just thought I was overwhelmed a little since her colic had started. My advice to any new mother- take the baby-sitting offers even it is or 2 hours to go to Target or the mall! You feel so much better coming home. I'm so sick of my couch right now!
Thanks to Grandma Mary, I get my Tuesdays and Thursdays to catch up on chores and do running around while she watches Ayla. She will be watching her on those days when I go back to work so she is getting practice in which gives me some "me" time.
But really, aside from the stress and anxiety, this has been awesome. There is nothing like having my baby girl. She's the most adorable, most amazing little thing. I never knew you could love something so much!

Ayla in her bouncer 6 1/2 weeks old

Today I was holding Ayla in a "sitting up" position and Chino came over to give me a lick on the face (which is very common- he's very lovable) and then for the first time, he licked Ayla on the cheek, then on the top of the head really quickly, then jumped down off the couch and started rolling around on the floor and wagging his tail (which is what he does when he's super happy!) He showed affection towards Ayla the other day by doing his version of a "hug" with her feet. He's starting to love her as one of the family!

Naptime with her favorite seahorse doll

Ayla and her "jingle" toy

Ayla is becoming much more alert already and starting to watch toys and our faces!

Bath time in the hospital

Ayla's nurse had an iPhone like Gus and took a picture of Ayla getting a bath and then sent it to Gus's iPhone. The nurses just loved Ayla and said she loved her bath. (She always does!)

Ayla's apnea scare

I'm just now posting about Ayla's apnea scare now because I was just too stressed out to do it before.
On Valentines Day (a week ago today) night, Ayla had an apnea episode about a half an hour after she ate. I was holding her and Gus and I were watching TV. All of a sudden I felt her stiffen up and her eyes were wide open and she was turning purplish - blue. I immediately screamed for Gus to call 911 because I knew she wasn't breathing. I started pounding on her back while running to find her nose sucker. Once I found it, I saw formula coming out of her nose. I sucked it out and pounded on her back again and she started crying. To make a long story short, I called her pediatrician and she sent us to St. Lukes Hospital for the night. We found out the apnea was from her reflux problem in which we already knew she had and was on medicine for. Since then, she has had breathing trouble again from mucus which is from her reflux problem, and she spent last night (Friday) and will be spending tonight (Saturday) in the hospital. They said she is fine. They have tested her and she does have mild reflux (they did xrays while making her drink this white chalky stuff) and we have her on better medicine. We've made some changes and we are just going to hope that this gets better. Last night they sent me home because I was delirious from not getting enough sleep this past week (maybe 2 hours a night if I'm lucky). They are sending me home again tonight which is great because I know she's in good hands and I will be nice and refreshed when she comes home. I slept HARD last night- 12 hours. But somehow I still feel like I could use another good nights sleep. They are just watching her for no reason in particular... just to make sure she continues to do well. (And they keep telling me to SLEEP!)
I look forward to our sweet baby coming home but am so worried that we will have to go through this agian. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Be my Valentine <3

Thank you to Carolyn Pursley for Ayla's Valentines day outfit! She is adorable in it!

Today, Ayla, Daddy and I are having our own little Valentines day celebration. We have chocolates and wine for mom and dad, we will be having a chicken parmesian dinner, a fire in the fireplace, watch the movie Nights in Rodanthe which just came out (ladies- this movie is GREAT), and we have cookies for dessert. Today is going to be fun! We wanted to spend this day with our little girl. Today was Ayla's due date and she is one month and one day old!

Nancy and Colleen

My mom's old gradeschool friends came by to meet Ayla. Nancy and Colleen have been friends with my mom for a long time and these were two of my favorite people when I was a little girl. I don't get to see much of them anymore, so it was great to have them stop by for a visit!
